Darren Ewert grew up in Port Alberni, Vancouver Island. He studied at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in Calgary and worked as a nutritionist. Later, he built a career in online and email marketing.
Discovering Enagic and Kangen Water® changed his path. Darren holds Enagic’s 6A4-5 rank and built a dream team from the ground up, expanding it in Canada, the USA, India, China, and Bhutan.
Darren Ewert is the founder of Darrenandmike.com, aka The Dream Team, where business associates come together to explore the opportunities offered by multi-level marketing.
In the summer of 2015, Darren Ewert and his buddy Mike Dreher hit the road for what they thought would be just another business trip. Darren had been killing it in the online business world for nearly a decade, raking in millions, but something wasn’t right.
As they cruised down the highway, windows down and classic rock blaring, Darren couldn’t shake this nagging feeling. He turned to Mike and said, “Man, we’re making bank, but are we living?”
That conversation hit Darren like a ton of bricks. He realized he’d been missing his kids’ soccer games, skipping date nights with his wife, and couldn’t remember when he’d just sat on his porch and watched the sunset. All those moments, gone in the blink of an eye, traded for another late night at the office or early morning conference call.
Darren had built a money-making machine, alright. But a machine was running him instead of the other way around. He knew the ins and outs of online marketing like the back of his hand and could build a killer team in his sleep. But what good was all that if he couldn’t enjoy the fruits of his labor?
Fast forward to today, and you won’t recognize Darren’s life. He’s swapped his 6 AM alarm for lazy mornings with his family, savoring that first cup of coffee instead of chugging it on the way to the office. His workday revolves around school pickups and family dinners, not board meetings and deadlines.
The crazy part? He’s making more money now than he ever did before. But ask Darren what he’s most proud of, and he’ll tell you it’s not the numbers in his bank account. It’s the smile on his kid’s face when he shows up to every Little League game or how he’s helping other entrepreneurs find that same balance he fought so hard for.
Darren’s journey isn’t just about making money anymore. It’s about making a life worth living and helping others do the same. And that, he’ll tell you, is worth more than all the millions in the world.
What sparked your transition to Enagic and Kangen Water®?
I was already deep into online marketing and had been quite successful. However, during that road trip with my friend Mike, a business coach, we realized that combining our skill sets could create something exceptional. That’s how The Dream Team was born.
What is a typical day, and how do you maintain productivity?
Our days are pretty different now. I spend a lot of time answering questions and managing our team, which has grown to hundreds of employees across multiple departments. We usually have one or two video conferences daily. The key to our productivity is taking regular breaks to avoid long periods of sitting. It’s all about balance.
How do you approach bringing new ideas to life?
We firmly believe that people are your greatest resource. When we have a new idea, our first step is to compile a list of individuals we know with the necessary skills to help implement it. It’s all about leveraging our network effectively.
Is there a current trend that particularly excites you?
Absolutely. I’m thrilled by the increasing ability for people to work from home while maintaining strong connections with their colleagues. The surge in video conferencing usage during the pandemic is a perfect example of this shift.
What’s one habit that enhances your productivity as an entrepreneur?
I make it a point to utilize small pockets of time that would otherwise be unproductive. Whether waiting in line at the grocery store, in a doctor’s office, or during a car wash, I always find ways to complete quick tasks.
What would it be if you could offer one piece of advice to your younger self?
Without a doubt, I’d say: “It’s easier to stay in shape than to get back in shape!” Taking care of your health from the start pays dividends in the long run.
Is there something you believe to be true that most people disagree with?
Darren: (Laughs) This might sound odd, but I believe good lighting is everything! It’s often overlooked but can make a difference in life and work.
As an entrepreneur, what’s one practice you consistently follow and recommend to others?
I’m a strong advocate for daily to-do lists. I make them every day and take satisfaction in checking off tasks as I complete them, even the smallest ones. It’s a simple yet powerful productivity tool.
What strategy has been crucial in growing your business?
Consistency has been key for us. We’ve maintained our core business model and values as we’ve grown. Our approach has been continually upgrading our systems to accommodate more people rather than drastically changing our fundamental approach.
How do you view and overcome failures in your entrepreneurial journey?
We don’t see failures in the traditional sense. For us, every setback is an opportunity to learn and grow. It’s all about perspective and how you choose to frame these experiences.
Are you willing to share a business idea with our readers?
Darren Ewert: (Chuckles) Nice try! All our business ideas are potentially worth millions. We’re not in the habit of giving those away for free!
What’s a recent purchase under $100 that you found particularly valuable?
I recently bought a tea blend with adaptogens and seven different mushroom varieties. It’s been fantastic for maintaining focus and alertness without relying on caffeine.
Is there a particular software or web service that boosts your productivity?
I’m a fan of the Reminders app on my iPhone. Its simplicity is its strength. I use it for all my to-do lists, and it’s become an indispensable tool in my daily routine.
Is there a book you’d recommend to our community?
“The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. It’s a profound exploration of life’s journey, one that we all undertake. It can make readers question and reflect on their own life choices.
Do you have a favorite quote that guides you?
It’s from Zig Ziglar: “You can have everything you want if you just help other people get what they want.” This principle has been a cornerstone of our business philosophy.
What key learnings would you like to share with our readers?
I’ve understood that life is a journey, not a race. Enjoying every aspect—the highs and the lows—is crucial. Don’t shy away from taking chances, especially when betting on yourself.
Above all, practice kindness. These principles have been fundamental in shaping my success and fulfillment.
